HAYBOY - 'Smartness & Dollars'

HAYBOY has unveiled a new single centred on the tension between professional drive and the relationships that give everyday life its meaning.

The project, led by West Virginia musician Daniel Brown, continues to blend alternative rock with psychedelic and Americana influences, drawing from the heavier, exploratory side of modern guitar music.

“Smartness & Dollars” was captured in one studio session with Dylan Hill on drums and Steven Buehler on bass. With no advance rehearsal or metronome guiding the performance, the musicians relied on instinct, while producer Lang Freeman later contributed a one-take lead guitar part.

Brown took a very different approach to the singing, spending months revisiting the vocal until he felt it carried the right emotional tone.

“Smartness & Dollars” also serves as the first introduction to HAYBOY’s next album and an accompanying series of original illustrations inspired by folklore and mythology.
