After an incredible run of form throughout 2022, which saw her unveil a mesmerising array of delights, fast-rising artist Yana Rose capped off last year with her incredible debut EP 'Another Missed Sunset', featuring the luxurious new single 'Tainted Heart'.
Capturing more of that rich and enigmatic aesthetic she has been building for herself, 'Tainted Heart' makes for a wonderfully sweet and alluring listen. Filled with warm and vibrant textures alongside her shimmering voice from start to finish, she looks set to become one of the more talked about names for the year ahead.
So with the new single available now, we sat down with her to find out more about her background and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
I don’t really remember being too crazy about anyone band or artist growing up. I was a huge Taylor Swift fan back in the day though, and I sang her songs in my 3rd and 4th grade talent show, so she was definitely one of my favourites.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they
sound like?
No, I was incredibly shy with my music growing up. Public singing terrified me so it was more of a hobby all the way until I graduated college.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
I’m mostly just inspired by the daily experiences of life. We feel such an array of emotions every day and they bleed into every aspect of our lives, there’s a song to be written about anything. I think it’s really cool when you listen to a song and feel like the songwriter articulated a feeling you haven’t been able to put your finger on, or feel a weight lifted because you realise someone else has the same thoughts running through their head as you.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
I don’t think there is a song that I wish I had written. I love seeing how an artist chooses to convey a feeling, and we all do it differently. I will say, recently I’ve had Noah Kahan’s song The View Between Villages on repeat. It is so nostalgic and his vocals are wild on that.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
I dm’d one of my favorite artists earlier in 2022 not expecting any response, and he got back to me with a lot of solid advice and complimented my music as well. That was one of the first moments that I actually felt like I was a musician and that maybe my goals weren’t so far out of reach.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Norah Jones would be really cool. I’ve always loved her music so sharing a stage with her would be a full circle moment.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Billie Eilish or Tems. They both have really fun vocal styles and are such talented musicians, I’d love to create something with them.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
In 5 years I’d love to have a couple tours behind me, two or three albums as well. I’m really looking forward to building up a team and solid support system. 5 years is a lot of time, so hopefully I’ll have carved out a unique space for myself in the world of music. Hopefully I’ll have tried out a lot of different styles and genres, and honed in on my specific sound a bit more.
