GET TO KNOW: The Alxandr

Award-winning R&B artist The Alxandr returns with 'Tender Love', a groove-led reinterpretation of a beloved classic and the first release from his forthcoming album 'Without Further Ado'. Blending smooth nostalgia with a renewed, rhythm-forward energy, the track signals the reemergence of an artist stepping back into the spotlight on his own terms.

On 'Tender Love', he pays homage to the songwriting legacy of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, reimagining the track with a laid-back groove and modern warmth. The result is a version that feels both timeless and revitalised, honouring the original while offering something fresh.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with him to find out more about the origins and influences behind his sound.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Michael Jackson - EWF - Stevie Wonder

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

Yes I did, we just played covers, but it didn’t take long for me to realize I needed to be solo.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

Like writing about the positive things in Love and life, but the new LP will have both sides of a relationships, good and bad.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

These 3 words by Stevie Wonder, also “Loves Holiday” EWF.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

It would be 1992 when I walked away from the rapid pace life under the label EMI/Capital records under the name Mikki bleu. I think I would stay with it because I had so much momentum with songs like “I Promise, Something Real, and Knocks Me Off my feet. But my 2 children were small, and they needed me home. So I would probably have move the family to New York! That’s what i would’ve done differently.
