GET TO KNOW: Tex Moonlight

After delighting us with a batch of fresh and dynamic releases throughout the year already, "Americonica" pioneer Tex Moonlight is continuing his impressive run of form with his uplifting new single 'Amy Winehouse'.

Paying homage to the modern queen of soul, 'Amy Winehouse' makes for a brilliantly rich and toe-tapping listen. With his warm and vibrant voice layered amongst such brilliantly infectious production from start to finish, he has once again cemented himself as a shining light on the new music scene.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with him to find out more about his background and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

KISS, but hey I was 10!

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they

sound like?

Sounded like really bad punk….like a really bad Agent Orange.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

Songwriting has always been an escape for me. It’s like an creative endeavor it’s a nice little break from reality. Even when you’re writing about a real event you can always float a little mythology in there.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Oh man, one song? I hear tracks all the time and seethe with envy! It’s a tie between “Cupid” by Sam Cooke and “Time of Your Song” by Matisyahu. Both have this great arrow imagery in them. Maybe I need to explore that?

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

Meeting Roger Daltrey from The Who.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

Sleaford Mods

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

Lucinda Williams

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Still livin’ the dream!
