With his smooth and emotive vocals spread across a spellbinding production from start to finish, he continues to shine as one of the more compelling names on the rise right now.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Michael Jackson.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
It wasn’t a band. It was a rap group. I was 11 years old. We sounded like ‘The Clipse’. It was a “boom bap” style of rap with a braggadocios delivery laced with witty punchlines.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
My primary inspiration in songwriting is to fully express my sincere perspective on the topic discussed in each song. Be it the uncertain nature of romance, or the nuanced motion of life in general. I love expressing myself honestly & vulnerably in the art of music.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
11:11 by Chris Brown & Human Nature by Michael Jackson.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
The joy of creating my first original song. The newness of that experience can never be replicated. It was a monumental moment because I finally achieved what I previously thought to be a daunting & unimaginable task.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I would love to share the stage with Chris Brown. He is an excellent performer.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
It’s a long list. To name a few: Pharrell, Chris Brown, Drake, Sampha, The Weeknd, Tyler the Creator, Usher, Burna Boy, Skepta, & more.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I like to take life one day at a time. A lot of unpredictable events can occur within five years. I have an optimistic view of the future. I see myself as a household name in the global music industry. I see myself being in a position to empower other artists. I see myself positively impacting my community in a major way. On a level they’ve never experienced before.
