After spending the last few months building and cultivating his sound, emerging Chicago-based rapper Paul2000 now looks to introduce himself to the world with his vibrant debut single 'Super Dope'.
Channelling a brilliantly fresh and expressive approach to the hip-hop sound, 'Super Dope' makes for a wonderfully inventive listen. With his warm and driven flow measured against some smooth and dreamy production throughout, he is certainly looking to make an impact with this one.
So with the new single available now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences in recent years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Eminem was the first artist that really made me get into Hip Hop.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
No I did not.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
The difficult things that I’ve been through in my life, particularly over the last ten years.
Writing lyrics and recording is a great way for me to express what I’ve had trapped in me for a long time, while also potentially helping others that listen to my music.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
“Slippin” by DMX. He was always one of my favorite artists, and Slippin is a song I played a lot during really difficult periods in my life, It’s a song that you feel in your soul.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
My first time going to a real studio was last year around September (2021). I remember feeling really excited and also nervous since I had never done anything like that before. My recording/mixing engineer AQ.Runitback made me feel really comfortable though, and the feeling of hearing my first real song coming to life was amazing.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I’ve never been on a stage yet, so sharing it with any artist that’s experienced would be cool.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
I’d love to collaborate with Russ. His songs have a lot of meaning, and I like the way he uses singing mixed with rapping in his songs.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Making a living from music, and touring around the world. Being healthy and working out again. Another dream of mine growing up was to get into acting. I’d love to be in one of the Fast and Furious movies.
