What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
This was early 2000’s I had just moved to America from Senegal, and still trying to learn English. I turned on the TV one morning and I see this man upside down and saying “Go, Go, Go, Go shawty it’s your birthday” I didn’t know English well at all, but I knew the words “Go” and “Birthday” and that man upside down was 50 Cent. This was my introduction to Hip-Hop, this is how I fell in love with music.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I never formed a group personally, but in my younger years I was apart of something for sure. Not as an artist, but I was around the group and got a chance to get my first taste of the creative process musically. The sound at that time was very “West Coast” very close to “The Pack” that made the song “Vans”.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Look, when it comes to inspiration…I still remember playing soccer, barefoot, on a dirt road in a small town in Senegal. I can’t not be inspired everyday I wake up with the opportunity to create music.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Hate it or Love by The Game featuring 50 Cent “Hate it or love it the underdogs on top, and I’m gon’ shine homie until my heart stop. Go head envy me, I’m raps MVP and I ain’t going nowhere so you could get to know me” in my opinion I was born 8 years too late…cause I would of wrote that hook. Maybe one day I’ll get to sample it.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
This is a moment before I even started my music career. It was a moment that inspired me to dream big, and it made me realize I could thrive on the world stage. It was the World Cup in Brazil 2014. I was there nearly a month, and everywhere I went I was treated like a celebrity. It made me realize I had something to offer, and now I’m speaking that realization through music. I would relive that in a New York minute.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I would love to share a stage with Snoop Dogg. He’s not only an Icon but a real representation of a legacy artist. While I was in Brazil no name got more love then Snoop Dogg, and like I always say “I just want Brazil to love me like they love Snoop” that’s who I’d most love to share a stage with.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
I would love to collaborate with Pharrell. He has a certain smoothness to his style, like the finest quality silk. I think I would compliment that smoothness on a track really really well.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
In five years I hope I’ve completed a World Tour, a Certified Platinum Album, and I hope I’ve done something to give back to Maryland, DC, and Virginia for making me into who I am today.
