After spending the last few years releasing a wave of fresh and upbeat offerings, emerging artist Marianne Engebretsen has now returned with what she hopes will be the sound of the summer, 'Strange To You'.
Channelling a bright and uplifting pop direction throughout, 'Strange To You' certainly satisfies that bold claim. With its rich and shimmering textures measured perfectly against her own spellbinding voice, her newest gem is just what we need to kick back to after a hard day's work.
So with the new single out now, we sat down with her to find out more about her background and influences over the years.

What was the first instrument you learned to play?
That was the piano. Like all my older siblings.
What was the first album you remember owning?
From what I can remember, it must be the record my sister gave me for Christmas in 1992: Mariah Carey “Live at MTV Unplugged ”. I loved it so much, five years old!
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
No, actually I didn’t.. But I played in the band for our local choir for a year or so, as well as singing a lot in different choirs and on my own.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Many. haha, so many great songs. One song that really blew me away was My Mind by Yebba. I first heard it some years ago on youtube.
What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?
I think it must be some of the moments we’ve had together as a band, playing a song for the first time and searching for the sound together. The moment everything just gets right; when everyone's interpretation of the music and the vision of the songs appears just right, it’s something on a higher level.
And what about the most frustrating part?
Working my way through every step of the creating process can be very frustrating. I often feel lost and confused in the middle of the process, like I’m not sure where I’m heading. I’m never sure when I’m done before I’m done. If that makes sense..
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I admire a lot of artists.. I’ve had a hang up on Ethan Gruska lately, that would’ve been a nice collab!
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Making a lot of music, playing concerts.
