Writer: The Real DingThe Real Ding

After spending much of last year turning out a wealth of bold and impactful efforts, Baltimore-based artist Dbn Kai is kicking off his 2024 with the blistering new album 'The Rebirth'.

Featuring the previously unveiled single 'Mr.Clean', this new nine-track collection makes for an incredibly broad and immersive listen. Jam-packed with killer hooks, a vibrant atmosphere, and his own driven flow at the helm, 'The Rebirth' continues his ascent as one of the more innovative names on the rise right now.

So with the new album available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

The first band I fell in love with was Reel Big Fish, with their unique style of ska music.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

Yes, I had formed a band with one of my friends and we were a hardcore metal band. We did one cover song of Green Day.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

My inspiration for writing music is coming up with something new and something that everybody can feel. Something you can move your body to or to reflect on and relate to.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

If I could have written a song myself it would be “Crank Dat” by Soulja Boy. Literally at that time I was thinking of a song in reference to a soldier, but I was too young to think about going to the studio.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

I would relive 2020 where I went down to Miami with one of my friends having a good time and kicking it.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

I would like to share the stage with Jeezy.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

Yes, there are an abundance of artists I’d like to collaborate with such as, K Camp, Jeezy, Moneybagg Yo, Key Glock, maybe rage against the machines.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I see myself in five years between having my own established business and being a successful artist in the music industry.
