Electronic music often thrives on contrast, and few emerging producers embrace that idea as completely as Breathing Statue. The Finnish project, created by composer and producer Ilari Halonen, blends cinematic composition, intricate sound design and emotionally driven electronic music into immersive listening experiences that move effortlessly between introspection and intensity. On his latest single 'Calm Your Mind', he pushes those boundaries even further, combining liquid drum & bass with the unexpected addition of ASMR to create something both calming and exhilarating.

Inspired by everything from film scores and video game music to bass music pioneers, Breathing Statue has steadily carved out a distinctive artistic identity built on atmosphere, experimentation and emotional storytelling. 'Calm Your Mind', featuring ASMR creator Prim ASMR, represents another ambitious step forward, demonstrating how unconventional ideas can evolve into compelling electronic music without sacrificing energy or accessibility.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him most over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Radiohead

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

Yes, our goal was to sound like Dream Theater. We played progressive rock.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

The drum&bass and dubstep scene of today.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Aphex Twin – Xtal.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

When I was in high school or upper secondary school, as you call it in Finland, I was the head singer of a funk rock band called Mitra. There was this one performance that we did inside the party boat. I have never practiced singing so much as for that particular gig.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

Haphaz7ard, but we don’t know each other sadly.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

I do collaborations mostly by meeting people locally. However, I wouldn’t mind doing global collaborations with most of the artists in the drum & bass and dubstep scene. I feel like many of those have quit already too. I just feel like I don’t have enough time and dedication to make such important collabs.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I’ll still be a church musician in North-Karelia. I would love to start a family. Hopefully more people will find my music as well.
