GET TO KNOW: Besso

Having already established himself with a wealth of riveting releases these last few years, fast-rising artist Besso is back for 2024 to deliver his euphoric new single 'Won't Fade'.

Adopting a broad and immersive electronic aesthetic for his newest outing, 'Won't Fade' makes for a brilliantly rich and alluring listen. With his captivating vocals spread across a shimmering production throughout, he continues to shine as one of the more innovative names doing the rounds right now.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Hmm, I would say Daft Punk because as a baby, the songs “One More Time” and “Music Sounds Better With You” (Stardust is basically Daft Punk, right?) were constantly playing in our family’s apartment and I always thought those songs had such a larger-than-life presence, maybe because of the voice effects or the driving beat but I just remember being mesmerised.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

Hahahaha, no. But if I did form one as a kid I probably would have wanted it to sound like Green Day. I had a strong fascination with America as a kid and I thought for some reason Green Day epitomised that. I remember seeing the music video for American Idiot on MTV and thinking they were the coolest guys and I definitely idolised them in a sense.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

Whatever is going on in my interpersonal relationships, with a dash of internal dilemmas, plus a dollop of made up stories.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Oo, probably blinding lights because it has like 4 billion streams now and I could just live off of those royalties forever. But creatively probably Flume’s remix of You & Me. When that song came out… I was so beyond mind blown at how organic, yet hard-hitting and epic it sounded. To be able to make a song that you feel really pushes the creative envelope into a whole new territory would be incredible, not sure if I’ve felt that myself yet.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

Probably the first time I played an original song in the club. It was (let me check) the 16th of February 2023 and I played my second song “Golden Threat” at Goya Social Club in Madrid. It was super nerve-wracking but hearing (albeit only a few) people singing along to the song was soooo surreal!

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

Right now, definitely Empire of The Sun, I love their sound and they are constantly adorned in trippy jewellery and costumes so I feel like it would be a fun time.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

Right now it would have to be Sammy Virji or Skrillex. I’ll just leave it at that.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I see myself continuing to make music on the side while living that 9-5 life trying to make a living!
