Following up the release of their recent compilation 'Air Conditioning Vol.1' earlier this year, Reading-based production duo Air Circus now return with their shimmering new single 'The Last Time'.
Collaborating with guest vocalist dj maisie mais, 'The Last Time' showcases the very best of their distinct direction. With its warm and vibrant textured, killer hooks, and a diverse approach to instrumentation, this breezy new groove is just what we need for these warming summer months.
So with the new single available now, we joined them in a quick chat to find out more about their origins and what has inspired them most over the years.

What was the first instrument you learned to play?
[Dan] We both learnt to play the piano first at a young age. I started playing on his dad’s piano, as well as starting to record tracks in FL studio around the same time. Adam originally wanted to play the drums, but having failed to find a teacher where he lived, he opted for piano instead (which he is really glad about as it helped him a lot with understanding music). Later he went on to play the drums as well!
What was the first album you remember owning?
[Dan] The first album I owned was Chase and Status’s No More Idols, I love old drum and bass and dubstep.
[Adam] I remember buying Gorillaz Plastic Beach with my first bit of pocket money. My friend introduced me to them and I wanted to own a copy instead of listening to badly ripped Youtube versions of the tracks.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
[Adam] Yes, I was a vocalist and rhythm guitarist in an alternative rock band called Before the Breakdown. We played a handful of gigs around the South of England and London, as well as recording a full length album. We put on some great live shows, we had a lot of fun and energy with our audiences. You can take a listen to the band here.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
[Dan] The song that I wish I’d written is ‘A Day in the Life’ by the Beatles - I love the rising crescendo part so much.
[Adam] I’d say Yusef Lateef’s ‘Like It Is’, the haunting saxophone and rolling percussion is just beautiful.
What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?
The most thrilling moment is definitely the first 2 hours or so of making a song.
It feels so fresh and unique and there's so many avenues you can go down. It all starts to evolve as we try new things, or take it in a new direction.
And what about the most frustrating part?
[Dan] Frustration comes from when it comes to finishing ideas - I never finish songs...!
But that’s why we work well together because Adam is great at structuring and completing the ideas.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
We'd love to share a stage with all the artists we worked with on our upcoming collaborative album. It would be amazing to bask in all their collected energies, performing our many creations to a great audience.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
[Dan] In five years’ time I want to be making songs for artists, songwriting/producing in writers groups and making banging songs with Air Circus.
[Adam] Creating wonderful music with a wide range of artists from different genres and cultures, as well as working on a project that encompasses music as well as other art forms too! And of course more Air Circus!
