Bonneville is heading back to soul-soaked sounds of the 70s with their latest track ‘In The Jungle’, featuring drummer Bernard Purdie and taken from their third album Hold for Room Tone. The retro-soul outfit digs deeper into tighter grooves and gritty tones that are beginning to be laid out as foundations for this new era.

The tale of inner-city survival pairs energised bass and keys, gospel vocal backdrops and the sweeping moments of brass and strings that make its characterful charm. The drums are undoubtedly the work of a seasoned professional and anchor the rhythm section.

“I wanted a song that felt like 1970s Philadelphia,” Wes McGee says, “with a string section that really soared to represent ambition, while still carrying the sense that something might be lurking behind you in an alley.”

Jeff Hayashi adds, “I just got hit with the infectious bassline, and it all fell into place.”

Recorded once again at Muscle Shoals’ Fame Studios, this is some of the most grounded and impressive movement from Bonneville to date.
