8-bit Funk transform iconic video game soundtracks into jazz gold on 'Level Design'

Dublin's 8-bit Funk are putting an exhilarating new spin on some of gaming's most recognisable soundtracks with the release of their debut album 'Level Design'.
Blurring the boundaries between gaming culture and contemporary jazz, the ambitious four-piece have crafted a thrilling collection of six reimagined compositions, drawing inspiration from legendary titles including Super Mario 64, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pokémon and Baldur's Gate 3.
Combining the infectious energy of funk with the sophistication of jazz and the warmth of soul, the album showcases the band's remarkable musicianship and inventive approach to familiar material.
Fronted by bassist and musical director Leon Laisne, the quartet also features Eoghan McCloskey on drums, Luca McArdle on keyboards and Yuzuha O'Halloran on saxophone and flute.
Leading the charge is 'Bob-omb Battlefield (From Mario 64)', a dazzling reinterpretation of the Nintendo favourite that perfectly captures the band's playful imagination and musical ambition.
With this new release, 8-bit Funk make an exciting statement, proving that video game music deserves a place far beyond the console.
